So how much do dental implants cost? That is a great question and one that has many answers. Over the years, I have placed thousands of dental implants and I can tell you that the costs vary quite a bit depending on the situation.
The first thing to remember is that when a dental implant is used to replace a tooth, there are 2 separate charges. One charge is for the actual dental implant (the titanium post that goes into the bone) and the second charge is for the crown (the porcelain tooth that is cemented on top of the dental implant titanium post). Many people get confused by this and are sometimes misled by offices advertising very inexpensive implants. In many cases, an office will advertise very cheap dental implants to lure in patients and then overcharge them for the implant crown. So, in the end, that very “inexpensive” implant you paid for was really not that cheap.
Another very important thing to consider with dental implants is bone. In order to have a dental implant placed, you must have enough bone to hold the titanium post. In some cases, when teeth have been missing for a long time or when an infection is present, there will not be enough bone present to strongly hold the implant. In these cases, bone must be regrown prior to placement of the dental implant. Without this extra bone, the implant will not be strong enough to withstand the immense forces generated during the chewing of food. If you need bone regrown prior to the placement of a dental implant, that will add extra cost to the implant process.
