By now, I am sure that you have seen the television advertisements saying that you can get a new set of dental implant teeth in one day. New teeth in one day? Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Let me give you the REAL STORY.
The “Teeth-in-a-Day” concept involves having a complete set of new teeth that are attached to dental implants immediately after the implants are placed into the mouth. These new teeth are not removable like a typical set of dentures. These implant teeth are secured to the implants. Sometimes, “Teeth-in-a-Day” are also known by the name “All-on-4” as promoted by the implant company Nobel Biocare.
While some places tout that they can give you new implant teeth in one day, there are a few little details (actually very big details) that they are leaving out. First of all, in order to have teeth permanently attached to dental implants in a single day as in the Teeth-in-a-Day concept, you must have at least 4 implants placed in the jaw that is being worked on. The 4 implants are securely attached to the new teeth which help to stabilize the implants in their early healing phase. No, you cannot have a new tooth permanently attached to a single implant on the day of implant treatment. Why not you ask? Unlike the “All-on-4” or Teeth-in-a-Day treatments which use a dental prosthesis to stabilize the newly placed implants, a single implant does not have the stability offered by the 4 implant concept. If you place a tooth on a single implant right away, the lack of stabilization on that implant significantly increases its risk of failure.
My problem with the Teeth-in-a-Day concept is the advertising used to promote it seems somewhat deceptive. Many people are lured into offices thinking all implant teeth can be restored in a single day. This is simply not the case. If you are having your entire jaw restored by dental implants (at least 4), then Teeth-in-a-Day are possible. The problem is that most advertisements do not mention this little, but important tidbit. You must then ask yourself, if they are not telling me this important piece of information, what else are they not telling me? That is why I created this page. I want you to know the information up front without any false pretenses.
The All-on-4 or Teeth-in-a-Day treatment concept is a great treatment option for those who qualify. The treatment is a reality.
